Binge!  One of the great things about Seattle is the abundance of awesome places to buy music.  One of our favs is Easy Street Records.  We paid them a visit last weekend and now have a pile of new and used CDs.  They have a great used selection and a ton of vinyl.  Good times were had by all...

Other great music stores in and around Seattle include:

Golden Oldies, Sonic Boom Records, Silver Platters, Quimper Sound (Port Townsend)

Epiphone Les Paul

New album from Mastodon!  Well, ok, it came out in March, but I just picked it up yesterday.  I'm not sure if it is their best album or not, but it is very, VERY good.  It is nice to hear that the beatdown the guitarist received at the MTV Video Music Awards a couple years ago didn't do any permanent damage.  Using my awesome new headphones (see last post), I kicked back and listened to the whole album start to finish.  It is one of those that you don't want to end, and it almost doesn't.  The last track is 13 minutes long!  It's a solid album, and well worth a listen.

Headphone Zen.  I have been trying to find a good pair of noise canceling headphones for a long time.  I'm willing to pay extra, but don't feel they should cost as much as a small car (I'm lookin' at you Bose!).  I've tried in-ear headphones, which block out noise by forming a tight seal in your ear.  Of course, those only work if they actually fit, and mine never did.  I had some Sennheiser on-ear noise canceling headphones, they just couldn't handle noisy environments like airplane cabins.  After selling those on eBay, I was once again looking for the perfect pair of headphones.

Thanks to my lovely wife, I found them.  OK, she found them at a Sony factory outlet store - model # MDR-NC60.  She bought hers as refurbished for under $100 a while back, a smoking deal.  I was still kind of content with my in-ear headphones, so I decided to pass on buying myself a pair.  All it took was one 8 hour flight with my in-ear torture devices, and I knew I had to have something different.  I borrowed my wife's headphones for a subsequent flight, and they were awesome.  Comfortable, light, good noise cancellation, good sound quality and long battery life.  I had to have them!  She said no.

I went back to the Sony outlet, and they were $200.  Some outlet!  Turning to the Internet, I found a good deal on a pair of new ones from Amazon.com for about $120.  So there you have it!  Seriously, this quest for the perfect headphone has gone on for years, so I'm glad to have it settled.....for now.
